God did not create this world for evil to thrive. As a man named Jesus, God met the greatest physical and social needs of His day. Jesus came to give people freedom, hope, and victory in life.

But Jesus ultimately came to meet the greatest spiritual need that people have—to give eternal freedom and hope by providing spiritual life. He came for people to have a personal relationship with God through the forgiveness that His death and resurrection provides.

By sacrificing His own life on our behalf, He made it possible for people to have a new kind of life. He brings change to our hearts and gives us the strength and power to live differently in this evil world. It’s a kind of life that reaches out to others and seeks to meet their physical and spiritual needs.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. (Luke 4:18-19)
